March is B Corp Month! So what’s it all about?
“B Corp Month is an annual, global campaign. Every year during March, B Lab and the global B Corp community join together to celebrate everything it means to be a B Corp. In 2024, we’ll show the world how we are always growing our impact. Because B Corp certification isn’t a destination, it’s an invitation to join the journey to better business.”
According to a recent study carried out by B Lab, the nonprofit network leading the B Corp movement, in Europe, on average, 1 in 7 people have heard of the B Corp movement.
But, really, what’s a B Corp?
Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
The B Impact Assessment evaluates a company’s practices and outputs across 5 impact areas:
That assessment culminates in a B Corp Certification. The B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency.
Why does something like the B Corp Certification exist?
Business needs comprehensive, credible, comparable impact standards to support economic systems change. B Lab was founded in 2006 with the idea that a different kind of economy was not only possible, it was necessary – and that business could lead the way towards a new, stakeholder-driven model.
