Thomas Crumly is passionate about learning, growing food, and having new experiences. A certified arborist, he brings years of hands-on experience in agriculture, urban forestry, and community education.
Thomas spent around two years completing 20 work exchanges on organic farms across seven states and nine countries, where he gained experience in regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and off-grid and market farming, along with animal care, composting, and soil care. As Tree Care Coordinator with Friends of the Urban Forest in San Francisco, he cared for street trees, hosted community volunteer events twice a week, and trained staff, workforce development participants, and volunteers in tree care and urban forestry practices. His commitment to hands-on teaching began at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he led weekly native tree plantings with groups of up to 60 volunteers and taught students and families about tree biology and ecology. Most recently, he has been running Saturday farmers market sales for an artisanal oils and vinegars vendor and working on a landscaping team in Atlanta.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and studied abroad at Lund University in Sweden. His strengths include patience, teamwork, and problem solving, and his best skills include planting, pruning, and caring for trees.
Outside of work, Thomas enjoys martial arts, reading, writing, hiking, cooking, and playing sports, especially basketball. He also likes to juggle.
