Mara Mills

Mara Mills

Mara was born and raised in the American South, where she developed a deep appreciation for the journey from farm to table and the ways food connects communities. She has worked across the food system, from hospitality to harvest, gaining firsthand experience in food production and access.

Her passion for sustainable food practices grew during her travels abroad and a season homesteading in South Carolina’s Low country, where she embraced a more self-sufficient way of living. She has hands-on experience in food access initiatives, coordinating food deliveries for local communities, and working in both the baking and beverage industries. Most recently, she completed a harvest internship in California, deepening her knowledge of agricultural production.

Mara enjoys writing, needle craft, and collage. She finds joy in storytelling, both through words and creative expression, and is always looking for new ways to blend her love of food, art, and community. Now at Retaaza, she is excited to help bring fresh, local food to more tables and support a resilient food system.
