Germaine Appel

Germaine Appel

Germaine grew up in New York where she played drums in a few bands before moving to Atlanta in 2005. She fell in love with local food here and became a chef, and that passion has shaped her career ever since. She brings years of experience in procurement, supplier relationships, and inventory management, along with a strong commitment to food justice and equitable food access.

Most recently, Germaine served as a Procurement Specialist at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, where she directed fresh produce purchasing for a network of more than 700 partner agencies statewide. She managed the full purchasing cycle, from sourcing and vendor coordination to delivery logistics, and built relationships with local and regional growers to ensure consistent supply while minimizing waste. Before that, as Operations Manager for Unearthing Farm and Market, she oversaw supply chain operations for an urban farm and retail market, built a supplier network that included BIPOC and local producers, and coordinated last-mile delivery to community members. She also managed procurement and inventory for a multi-site school food program with ARTportunity Knocks.

Germaine is a graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta and holds a ServSafe Culinary Management Certification. Her strengths include problem solving and staying positive no matter what. Her best skills are writing, listening, and finding the perfect chanterelle.

Outside of work, Germaine enjoys hiking, bird watching, mushroom foraging, gardening, and cooking. She is passionate about animal rights, nature, music, books, and film.
